Transforming lives across Tanzania

Our Story

Empowering Tanzania's Future Generation

Wakwetu Foundation is a Tanzanian-registered nonprofit organization dedicated to creating opportunities for vulnerable children and marginalized communities. Founded in 2015 by a group of local educators and healthcare professionals, we work in five regions across Tanzania to break the cycle of poverty through integrated education, health, and community development programs.

Our name "Wakwetu" means "Our Children" in Swahili, reflecting our belief that every Tanzanian child deserves quality education, healthcare, and protection regardless of their background or circumstances.

We take a holistic approach to community development by addressing the interconnected challenges of education, health, nutrition, and economic empowerment. Our programs are designed with and for the communities we serve, ensuring cultural relevance and sustainability.

Key elements of our approach include:

  • Community-led solutions
  • Partnerships with local schools and clinics
  • Evidence-based programming
  • Long-term commitment to communities
  • Focus on measurable outcomes

Since our founding, Wakwetu Foundation has:

  • Built 8 primary schools serving 2,400+ students
  • Provided scholarships to 500+ orphans and vulnerable children
  • Conducted medical outreach serving 15,000+ patients
  • Installed 12 clean water systems in rural villages
  • Trained 300+ teachers in child-centered pedagogy
  • Supported 200+ families with livelihood programs

Our work has been recognized by the Tanzanian Ministry of Education and various international partners.
